Neuron synapses

The beneficial effects of physical activity on cognition have been shown in mice, but have been much harder to prove in people. A 2022 study, by contrast, tracked the physical activity of elderly participants, who also agreed to donate their brains when they died. Researchers found that elderly people who remained active had higher levels of proteins that facilitate the exchange of information between neurons.

The importance of physical activity across many areas of life has been proven by science time and time again. I believe it is important to communicate this concept to younger generations, so I worked on creating a comic illustration of this scientific study. The synapses are symbolized by the two neurons holding hands; with their other hand, they are holding a dumbbell, which shows the role of physical activity in this process. The illustration’s bright, warm colors contribute creating a positive vibe.
